The GCAT at the Global Biobank Week 2017 meeting

Toward Harmony in Biobanking 2017

Anna Carreras, from the GCAT Team, presented the current state of the Project GCAT at the Global Biobank Week 2017 conference, held in Stockholm from 13th to 15th September 2017. The presentation was included in the Biobanks and Electronic Health Records session, and Anna had the opportunity to present  in front of international audience of experts, what are the current achievements of the project.

During  the Global Biobank Week 2017: Toward Harmony in Biobanking 2017, three international Biobanking organisations meet for a comprehensive discussion and collaboration on biobanking and biopreservation of samples and data for research : Biobanking and BioMolecular resources Research Infrastructure - European Research Infrastructure Consortium (BBMRI-ERIC) , Middle Eastern and African Society for Biopreservation and Biobanking (ESBB) and the International Society for Biological and Environmental Repositories (ISBER).

The goal of this meeting was to assist  researchers to improve health care and decrease the burden of disease worldwide. Session topics included personalised medicine, quality of samples, harmonisation efforts, data protection, and the benefit for citizens and society. After three days of  exciting discussion, the experts underline the importance of patient collaboration and data protection, putting patients in the table of present and futuresa resercah with clinicicans,biobankers, and reserachers.

The Global Biobank Week was a real success, and more than 850 persons took part to this first edition.
